Baby showers are a great place for people to gather in the energy and excitement of new life, and a great place for a new mama to be appreciated and shown some love. 

The mama is left with a giant pile of presents to be put together, clothes that need organizing, and a list of thank-you cards to write and mail out.

In my fantasy baby shower world, the guests would come together for that first shower where they’re fed a delicious brunch, given baby-themed decorated cookies, and bottomless mimosas, and then all of the guests would be put on a rotating schedule for the mama’s last weeks of pregnancy and the first months postpartum. Anybody who sat at Table 1 during the baby shower is on laundry and housekeeping duty. Those who sat at Tables 2-4 are now part of the food delivery and meal prep team. Table 5 is committed to being available via text message and phone call for 24/7 emotional support through the next five months. Although I’m sure this is something that could happen-- I mean some people have friends who really are this awesome, but it’s not going to be the norm for most people.
