New motherhood is a glorious time of life if you can look past the mesh panties, leaky boobs, and mystery liquids in your hair. Be Her Village exists to change the way we celebrate new families. We want the fourth trimester to be a time to bond with baby, not stress about washing the dishes.
When Kaitlin had her children, she had lots of family and friends who bought great gifts. But when her birth went sideways and she had a traumatic cesarean, she was completely unsupported. Her husband was working full time and in grad school, breastfeeding was hard, and she was taking care of a newborn 24/7 while trying to heal from surgery.
It was a very lonely time. She needed something more than cute baby clothes and diapers. She needed someone to sit with her and teach her how to breastfeed, to do her laundry, cook a meal, clean the house, and hold her baby while she showered. She needed a real, warm presence. She didn’t have that. She had boxes of expensive baby things that were no help at all.
She saw women showered with thousands of dollars of baby gifts who still didn’t have money to pay for childbirth classes, doulas, breastfeeding support, pelvic floor specialists, therapy, and the support they need for a calm transition into parenthood. So she built Be Her Village: so every mother could be celebrated and showered with what they really need: support.
Take off your invisibility cape
As soon as you become pregnant, you become invisible. Everything is about your belly, your bump, your baby. No one is there to clean up after you. Friends send expensive gifts for your baby, but after the birth everyone leaves. They visit to hold the baby; they call to ask about the baby. No one is there to cook for you, help you feed your baby, or make sure you’re well.
Be Her Village is the first baby registry built for the mom. You don’t need another bottle warmer or crib sheet. You need help. Someone to clean your house, make a meal, or help with baby’s latch. Be Her Village lets you create a customizable support registry and receive gifts that won’t sit in the corner gathering dust.
Making motherhood better
We envision a world where every new parent has education in pregnancy, support during birth, and a village of friends and professionals taking care of them while they care for their new baby. Be Her Village offers access to the services that support a healthy pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood—from doulas and lactation consultants to meal trains and mental health.
