Bio

I am a certified birth and postpartum doula (Cornerstone) located in Battle Creek, Michigan. I am also a mother to 1 and a bonus mother to 2, a partner, a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) and a certified hearing ASL interpreter. After witnessing so many loved ones have terrible birth and postpartum experiences, I had an invigorating experience as a first time mother giving birth at home with a midwife and a doula. This opened my door to birth work in 2017. *LGBTQIA+ and Polyamory safe space.

Q: How do you answer the question: "I want your support but my partner feels like they'll be replaced"?

A: A doula does not replace a partner! As a doula, I bring knowledge and "insider tips" to the whole experience of pregnancy, birth and postpartum. But for partners? They have history, deep emotional connections to the birthing parent and are often a major source of comfort, love and grounding. A doula supports the whole family--including partners!

Q: What drew you into working with parents-to-be?

A: Becoming a parent myself! I planned a home birth with my son and hired a doula as soon as I found out that I was pregnant. I ended up having a very positive birthing experience and wanted to go on to share that support with other parents! I have always loved children and babies, but now I have a deep respect and admiration for parents.

Q: What's your top piece of advice for an expectant mom?

A: Trust yourself. And breathe.

Q: What are your certifications and trainings?

A: I am currently certified through Cornerstone Doula Trainings for birth + postpartum doula services. I have also taken several trainings through Birth Arts International, Sacred Postpartum, 7 Sisters for 7 Days, Learn to Belly Bind, as well as various herbal, somatic and traditional postpartum warming techniques from local teachers.

Q: What locations or areas do you serve?

A: I primarily serve southwest Michigan and northeast Indiana, as I'm based in Battle Creek, MI and originally from Fort Wayne, IN. However, I am willing and able to travel, depending on the budget and circumstances of the family hiring me. I am more willing to travel for Deaf/signing families, as I am very aware of the lack of fluent signing doulas.
