About Embracing Birth Iowa
Bio
I’m Liz (she/her), and I’m the Labor Doula at Embracing Birth. As a judgement-free, size-inclusive, and unbiased doula, my only goal for my clients is that they feel informed, listened to, and supported throughout every step of pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum.
Q&A
Q: What are your certifications and trainings?
A: CAPPA Certified Doula (2022) Certified Size-Inclusive Birth Professional with Michelle Mayefske of Fat & Pregnant (2023)
Q: How do you answer the question: "I want your support but my partner feels like they'll be replaced"?
A: Labor doulas are just one part of your birth team. You, your partner(s), doula, and care provider will work together to ensure you feel empowered, informed, and supported throughout your labor & delivery. You and your partner(s) share a loving, emotional connection, while your doula provides resources, knowledge, and physical support.
Q: What locations or areas do you serve?
A: I mostly work in the Des Moines metro area - including Ames. I'm open to travel outside of the metro for an additional travel fee.
Q: What drew you into working with parents-to-be?
A: I started Embracing Birth after having my oldest daughter. While in the delivery room, surrounded by my birth team, I had a moment of realization - everyone deserves to feel as supported and loved as I did in that moment. Regardless of gender, race, or financial ability. Every birthing person deserves the love, support and encouragement of a Doula.

While my work, time, and energy is valuable, I also understand some families are on tight budgets. I am willing to work with clients and set up monthly payment plans to alleviate financial stress. I do not want cost to be a barrier for clients to receive care and support.
