About B*E*S*T Doula Service
Bio
I have been a birth doula since 1996 and have supported more than 700 families through pregnancy, labor, birth, and immediate postpartum. I specialize in empowering expectant parents to prepare for a safe and positive hospital birth experience. I offer guidance to avoid harmful interventions and respect personal choices, without judgment.
Q&A
Q: What's your top piece of advice for an expectant mom?
A: Doctors and nurses work for the hospital and are required to follow the hospital's rules and regulations. They are not there to help you. A nurse will be with you for about 1/3 of your time during labor and the doctor will be there even less. You and your support team need to be prepared.
Q: What are your certifications and trainings?
A: I've been certified by DONA International and have been trained by DONA, CAPPA, Childbirth International, Birthing from Within, HypnoBirthing, Spinning Babies, Nils Bergman, ICEA, Pregnancy Massage, Smart Beginnings, Healing Hypnotherapy, Penny Simkin, Michel Odent and so much more!
Q: Are there any specialities in who you serve? (e.g. home birth, VBAC, etc.)
A: I specialize in empowering expectant parents to prepare for a safe and positive hospital birth experience. I offer guidance to avoid harmful interventions and respect personal choices, without judgment. Hospital births are more complicated and difficult than out-of-hospital births and require more preparation.
Q: What's your favorite past client story?
A: I love when my clients understand their options and feel confident with their choices. When a nurse tried to take the baby to the warmer, my client said "bring my baby to me" and the nurse said, "the baby needs to go to the warmer" and my client pointed to her chest and said, "I'M THE WARMER!" The nurse agreed and brought her the baby.
Q: How do you answer the question: "I want your support but my partner feels like they'll be replaced"?
A: The average first birth last 12-24 hours, but sometimes they last for 2 or 3 days ... or longer. Your partner will need to sleep, eat, use the bathroom or just take a break! There are also very helpful positions and techniques that required two support people. A doula does not replace the partner -- the doula SUPPORTS the partner.
