About Sacred Transition

Bio

My name is Kara. I'm a Birth Doula living in the US Virgin Islands looking forward to serving my community here and families around the country when necessary. I've been passionate about protecting the human right to bodily autonomy throughout the perinatal experience, especially during Labor and Birth for almost 15 years now. I finally got to a point in life where I was ready to dive into this role a few years ago. I was trained through DONA International and am working toward certification.

Q&A

Q: What locations or areas do you serve?

A: Mainly St. John and St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands but I am willing to travel if needed. Compensation would need to be adjusted for clients I travel for but we can talk and find out what works. I plan to move back to the North East by next year if the Universe wills it to be so.

Q: How do you answer the question: "I want your support but my partner feels like they'll be replaced"?

A: My goal is to help the Birthing parent achieve as close to their dream Birth as safely possible, so they will be my priority. This means that if they want their partner to be present in a supportive role, it is also my goal to help you both prepare for that dynamic. I hold space for you to make educated decisions together through the process.

Q: What are your certifications and trainings?

A: I was trained in Boston with a DONA International certified trainer. While seeking out a course on the basics of Lactation, I became fascinated by how it works and began a course with Lactation Education Resources, an internationally accredited education platform, to become a Certified Breastfeeding Specialist and eventually an IBCLC.

Q: How much experience do you have?

A: Though I was vetted for the volunteer program at my local hospital back home in Western Mass, I received 2 inquiries w/no follow through. After making an appointment with a Midwife there, I found out that my number wasn't being given out. I had one client, a family member, and have since moved, saving for the opportunity to offer my time again!

Q: What's your top piece of advice for an expectant mom?

A: Your body knows what to do but may resist if you don't feel safe. Rally a supportive team, tailored to your circumstances, who will keep you safe while providing the information to help you make your choices, honoring them with the respect they deserve.
