About Rested Families, LLC
Bio
Hi! I'm Kendall Hampton. I founded Rested Families, LLC to help families to get the quality sleep they need for optimal health and well-being. I support parents to build their child's skills and confidence to fall asleep on their own at bedtime and if they wake before morning. However, expecting parents are in the unique position to nurture an independent sleeper from the start and avoid formal sleep training down the road. Let's set your family up for success! Q&A
Q: What are your certifications and trainings?
A: I earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies from The University of Alabama in 2003. I've worked with children and families in many capacities over the years. I'm a Child Development Specialist, Parent Educator, Early Interventionist, Alabama Part C Autism Mentor, and Certified Pediatric Sleep Consultant.
Q: What drew you into working with parents-to-be?
A: While working in the field of early intervention, I often witnessed the amazing developmental leaps that occurred once children started getting quality sleep. I repeatedly saw the positive impact that being RESTED had on the entire family. My passion also comes from the exhaustion I experienced as a mom and my desire to help other moms avoid that.
Q: How much experience do you have?
A: As a Developmental Specialist/Home Visitor for 8 years, I collaborated with parents to imbed strategies into their daily routines that improve their child's development and family functioning. As a Sleep Coach, I support parents to use loving and responsive methods that align with their parenting preferences and child's temperament and abilities.
Q: Are there any specialities in who you serve? (e.g. home birth, VBAC, etc.)
A: I work with parents of children of all ages & abilities. I specialize in addressing sleep challenges associated with autism, sensory differences, challenging behaviors, separation anxiety, and nighttime fears. My EI experience has equipped me with a toolbox of developmental strategies that complement my expertise in behavioral sleep interventions.
Q: What's your top piece of advice for an expectant mom?
A: Newborns need soothing measures to calm their immature nervous systems so they can fall asleep. However, parents need to gradually remove those calming measures as their baby ages so they have the opportunity to develop the ability to self-soothe. Continuing to feed/rock/assit to sleep prevents babies from developing independent sleep skills.
