Bio
Hi, I’m Salerno RL Salerno Martinez—a Deaf USAF Veteran, doula, and student midwife. I support families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum with calm, compassionate, and inclusive care. As a Deaf woman, I value clear communication, informed choice, and advocacy so every family feels heard, respected, and supported. Deaf, Hard of Hearing, hearing, and Deaf Heart families are welcome here.
What are your certifications and trainings?
I am a Certified Birth Doula, Community Health Worker Instructor, and student midwife in the NARM PEP pathway toward CPM and Texas LM credentials. I train under the direct supervision of Asia Jones, LM, CPM, and hold current BLS and NRP training. My continued education includes hands-on prenatal, birth, newborn, and postpartum care.
What drew you into working with parents-to-be?
I was drawn to birth work because every parent deserves to feel informed, respected, and supported during such a life-changing time. My own experiences navigating healthcare as a Deaf woman showed me how much clear communication and compassionate advocacy matter. I love helping families feel confident in their choices prenatally through postpartum.
How much experience do you have?
Since beginning birth work in 2021, I have attended more than 140 births in various support roles. My experience includes providing doula care, assisting with prenatal and postpartum support, and gaining hands-on clinical experience as a student midwife under supervision.
